Work Progressing on Hurricane Deck Bridge

CAMDEN COUNTY – The new Hurricane Deck Bridge on Route 5 in Camden County enters a new phase of construction the week of Dec. 17.

Crews have spent the last several months constructing concrete piers for the new bridge and next week will set steel girders on those concrete piers. The crews will place the girders for the new bridge from the water throughout the week.

“While the work taking place next week may not affect traffic, it is still a significant sign of progress on the project,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Resident Engineer John Sanders. “The girder placement will be a four-month process, and while we’ll start from the lake during the first week or two, we will need to close the existing bridge from time to time in January as work will need to be done from that structure. ”

Sanders noted that construction has been running smoothly and is progressing on schedule.
The public can watch the bridge construction in progress via a time-lapsed camera located on the bridge that captures construction images every 10 to 15 minutes. The link can be found on MoDOT’s website under Major Projects at www.modot.org.

The new bridge is being built on the east side of the existing structure. It will be wider than the current bridge with two 12-foot driving lanes and seven-foot shoulders on each side. The existing bridge is open to traffic during the construction of the new structure, which will be completed in late 2013.

Offshore Super Series Returns

Offshore Super Series
Returns to the Lake of the Ozarks
Speed and power will be on display as the Offshore Super Series returns to the Lake of the Ozarks in June 2013. The Lake of the Ozarks Invitational Offshore Super Series Race Event will be hosted by Beavers at the Dam June 7-9, 2013.

National and World Champion as well as World Record Holder Dave Scott, an offshore racing legend, will be the honorary chairperson. This will be a world-class race event that will attract race teams, support operations, and thousands of spectators from the Lake area and the surrounding communities.

After working with the city of Lake Ozark, the Missouri Department of Transportation and Ameren Missouri, the committee is excited to also announce that Bagnell Dam will be closed to traffic to allow race fans to view the races on the Dam.

The goal is to generate significant new tourism revenue to the Lake of the Ozark economy at a time before the traditional summer vacation season. The race committee is working diligently to meet all race event financial commitments through sponsorships, and designate the remaining funds to local charities as well as beautification projects in the Historic Bagnell Damn Strip area. Sponsorships will be available to help fund the various aspects of the event. Volunteers and in-kind donations will be appreciated in order to generate the most revenue for charitable donations.

Make your plans now to be at the Lake of the Ozarks, June 6-9 for the Lake of the Ozarks Invitational Offshore Super Series Race!

Good Fishing Advice

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. – It's a clear, warm, sunny day. The lake is like glass, the wind is calm, and you grab your rod and reel to go try for a lunker. Enjoy the weather, says Jim Dill, but don't get your hopes up: the fish likely won't be biting. Because often the best days for fishing are really the worst days for fishing.
The barometric pressure is generally a good indicator of when the fish will be biting, Dill says. On high-pressure days, which tend to be clear and calm, the fish slow down and are often difficult to catch. But when the pressure drops and the weather worsens, the fish come to life.
So what makes for good fishing? "Fishing in the snow," Dill muses.
On the other hand, last Tuesday, the pressure was high and the skies were clear, and Dill says he pulled in one of the biggest bass he's ever caught on the Lake of the Ozarks. The seven-pound largemouth went for a 3/4-oz Crock-O-Gator reaction jig. He says the big bass (six pounds or larger) are almost a different breed of fish, and may be caught anywhere, when you least expect it. Later that day he caught a large kentucky bass on a Crock-O-Gator buzz bait. Other than that, Dill says, the fishing was terrible.
So check your barometer before you go out. But regardless of the reading, Dill says you should go fishing anyway. "Now (November) is some of the best fishing of the year and a great time to book a trip," he says.
(LakeExpo.com interviews professional bass angler Jim Dill to publish the “Reel Dill.” Jim is fishing guide at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. He has fished the Lake for 20 years and is sponsored by Sportworld Boat Center, Ranger Boats, Evinrude, Falcon Rods and Crock-O-Gator Bait Company)

Mad Mongoose Too

Mad Mongoose Too, the newest lakefront bar on the Gravois Arm, is bringing authentic Caribbean to the 6MM.

A bright spot donning new docks in the location formerly known as Sharky’s Timeout, Mad Mongoose Too is primed to feed, refresh and entertain boaters, especially the crowd from the Family Party Cove (Indian Creek Cove).

Mad Mongoose Too does the Caribbean vibe done right. The proprietors own the new Lake bar’s namesake in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua, in the heart of the Caribbean.

They’re bringing the buzzing atmosphere, great tunes, and tasty food and drink menus to the Lake Too, Mad Mongoose style.
